Ripon Races 2025 dates, times & information to plan your race day


Ripon Races, often referred to as Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse, is located in Ripon, North Yorkshire. Known for its picturesque setting, it has been a prominent fixture in the British racing scene for over 300 years.

Ripon Racecourse is situated on Boroughbridge Road, making it easily accessible by road. Shuttle services and nearby accommodations make it convenient for both local and distant visitors

Club Enclosure

Ripon Races 2025 Meetings
Ripon Races invite racegoers of all ages to dress smartly in the Club Enclosure. Suits and ties are not mandatory, but they do ask that gentlemen wear collared shirts and smart trousers. Tailored shorts are also welcome.

Smart jeans are allowed provided they are not ripped, torn, or frayed. Smart trainers are acceptable, however, sportswear should be avoided.
This is an excellent chance to dress up for a special day.

Ladies may want to remember that walking, often on grass, is likely, so appropriate footwear is crucial. Also, monitoring the weather forecast as the event approaches will help in choosing an outfit that is both fashionable and practical for the day.

Paddock & Course

Thirsk Races 2025 Meetings
For this enclosure, no strict dress code is in place, however please do dress with taste and respect.

Remember that bare chests are not permitted.

Fancy dress is welcome, please ensure your outfit is considerate and not offensive to fellow racegoers.

Picnics are allowed in the Course Enclosure and Paddock Enclosure areas - families can relax on the grass and enjoy the day.

Please note: Picnics are not allowed in the Club enclosure.

Ladies Day

For many women, getting dressed up is a highlight of the race day experience. Ladies Day offers that perfect opportunity to truly shine.

It is great that everyone don traditional attire for this special occasion, complete with stylish hats. Don’t miss out on the chance to compete for the exclusive prizes for both the Best Dressed Lady and the Best Hat!

Placing a bet

There are numerous ways to place bets throughout the racecourse, featuring various on-course bookmakers, multiple Tote points, and convenient on-site William Hill betting shops. For those enjoying the Hospitality options, Tote operators will gladly visit your box or table to assist you with your betting needs.

Toilets

There are wheelchair accessible toilets throughout the racecourse, and within the bar area. These are clearly indicated but if you are unsure, please ask any member of staff for help.
Located in the Paddock area are male and female ambulant toilets with handrails.

Guide Dogs

Unfortunately, only assistance guide dogs are allowed into the racecourse enclosures on racedays.

How to get to Ripon Races


By car - Ripon is most easily accessed by the A1 (M).

South approaching - leave the A1 at the turning to Ripon (junction 48), which is just after the Harrogate exit, and follow the brown signs for Ripon Cathedral.

North approaching - leave the A1 where it is joined by the A61 (junction 50) which becomes the Ripon bypass. Turn left at the third roundabout and the racecourse is just a few hundred yards on the right.

Parking - limited number of accessible parking spaces are available - it is advisable to arrive early to guarantee a space. The ground is level from parking through to both the paddock and club ticket gates.

By train - The nearest stations are Harrogate (11 miles), Thirsk (11miles) and York (27 miles)

Public Transport:
36 – Leeds – Harrogate – Ripon. Runs every 20 minutes.
70 – Northallerton – Thirsk – Ripon 142, 143 – York – Boroughbridge – Ripon.

FREE shuttle bus service:
This runs for 90 minutes before the first race. The return shuttle runs for 30 minutes after racing.

Did You Know?

The first ever recorded horse race in the Ripon area took place in 1664 on Bondgate Green.
